Quick Fire Fantasy Book Tag

I saw this on Julie’s blog One More Book and thought it sounded really fun. The tag was created by The Bookworm Dreamer.

My most read genre is definitely fantasy so this is perfect! And it’s been a hot second since I last did a book tag. Also, I’m a stressed little cupcake so quick fire is really appreciated!

I’m gonna try to not recommend the same five books again here and switch it up a bit … but no promises ^^

Rules:

  • Thank the person who tagged you and link back to their post
  • Link to the creator’s blog (thebookwormdreamer.wordpress.com) in your post
  • Answer the prompts below – all fantasy books!
  • Tag 5 others to take part
  • Enjoy!

5 Star Book

In the Shadow of Ruin by Tony Debajo

If you love fantasy inspired by mythology and folklore you’ll love In the Shadow of Ruin. It’s a story of loss and grief, of pride and vengeance, and the question of how far everyone is willing to go to get it.
Tonys writing style compliments this perfectly. It’s very to the point while still creating this atmospheric vibe that transports you right into the heart of the story inspired by ancient Nigerian folklore.

Once you start reading it you won’t be able to put it down.

Always Going to Recommend

The Wolf of Oren-Yaro

The Wolf of Oren-Yaro by K.S. Villoso

You didn’t think I could make a post recommending fantasy books without mentioning this series, did you? Are you tired of me shoving these books in your face yet? But … I mean this prompt literally asks for something I always recommend … and well … here we are again!

The Chronicles of The Bitch Queen are truly such masterfully crafted books. The world is so intricate and vivid and full of life. The characters are so complex, truly flawed and they are going though so much!

If you still haven’t picked the first one up … please do! And please talk to me about them after you’ve finished!

Own It But Haven’t Read It Yet

The Unbroken by CL Clark

The Unbroken by C.L. Clark

I’m dying to read this! I mean:

Through assassinations and massacres, in bedrooms and war rooms, Touraine and Luca will haggle over the price of a nation. But some things aren’t for sale.

How does that not make someone desperate to start this?! And even better, it’s sapphic!

I’ve heard so many good things about this book that I’m both intimidated to start but also 100% sure I’ll love it!

Would Read Again

448873

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner

The Queen’s Thief series is such an underrated gem! Every book has a different focus and I loved them all (I’ve read the first 4 or 5) but the first two will probably always remain my favourites.

Gen is all what I love in a character. Clever, witty and daring but also super loyal and I fell in love with him and his story right away!

The writing style is wonderful and I don’t know why but the feeling this series gives off is so low-key and comfortable while still being captivating and engaging.

In Another World

Spellslinger Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castell

I’m in love with this series, in part probably because I’ve buddy read almost all the books with my friends, but also because Kellen and Reichis and Ferius are just such wonderful characters to follow.

I loved exploring the world with all the different countries and their culture and customs alongside them. I’ve had so much fun, laughing about Reichis insults and his love for butter biscuits, scheming with Kellen and listening to Ferius teaching about the Argosi Way …

Back On Earth

This series is so magical and whimsical and wonderful. I’m not telling anyone anything new by recommending it again here but I just couldn’t leave it off.

Especially with a prompt like Back on Earth. I know, it probably meant something different, but since the characters all fall back into our world instead of living in their own perfect for them ones … well I think it fit’s wonderfully.

This specific book in the Wayward Children series is probably my absolute favourite. When I read it earlier this year if honestly felt like coming home. I had this cosy feeling the while time.
