It has been mere days in the world of Eon, where Rune Jenkins, her twin brother Ryker, and their friend Grey have been trapped, fighting for their lives. After discovering the truth of their ancestry, the three are far from home, and far from anything resembling their mundane lives of the past.
While Ryker is still held captive by the eerily beautiful Zio and her goblins, Grey falls into the clutches of Feena, the Fae queen. She begins to drain his soul bit by bit to feed her dark underground garden, and Grey has no hope of escaping on his own.
It is now up to Rune to save Grey, as his precious time slips away inexorably. But the Council has denied her permission to embark on a rescue mission, until she can harness her Venator gifts and prove herself capable of venturing into the Fae queen’s territory. As Rune discovers that promises in Eon are forged with life-or-death consequences, she realizes that she must act quickly, or else be swallowed and Grey along with her by the dangers of Eon.
I’m so happy I found the first book in this series trough the Blog Tour organized by Dave @ The Write Reads. I very seldom pick up Urban fantasy books but I really liked book 1 and thought it had the potential to become an amazing series. And I’m so happy to say that this book delivered everything that I wanted!
I buddy read this with Ellie from Read to Ramble and we had so much fun reading this and talking about it! It made the whole experience even better!
I loved Promises Forged so much more than book 1 (Review for Venators: Magic Unleashed) which I also really liked. But we have an established world and spent the whole book in Eon. Book 1 introduced the council members and what they are. We met a succubus, vampires, werewolves, fae and elves and Venshii.
Now in Promises Forged Grey and Rune are confronted more and more with what it means to be a Venator in Eon. They meet resistance, make mistakes, enemies and allies. I loved how we learn more about the customs in Eon, I especially loved how Tate and Verida realise slowly how different everything is to our world and why Rune and Grey have such difficulties bowing down to the council. It’s very well done and I liked Rune a lot more in this instalment. She gets to know and accept herself including her darker side more and more and it’s a pleasure to read about it.
Unfortunately Grey and I aren’t getting along much better than we did in the first book, but he had some great scenes as well. And I love Tashara so he’s okay too if it means I get to read about her, too. I loved that we got to see that there is so much more to her than we know right now. She is fierce and clever, but also really lonely.
And while we are on the topic of characters that I love … Beltran! He was more present in this book and I adore him! The way he talks to Rune is just … heartwarming. I want to say sooooooo much more about him, but I don’t want to spoil you, so I guess you just have to read for yourself?
In Promises Forged we get a closer look at the council members and what their motives might be as well as some other territories. Feena’s magic and her land are fascinating! A lot of new storylines are opened in Venators II, for example, Tate and his family. And I’m really curious to see how everything will continue. I flew through the chapters as the writing style is really engaging and I’m definitely hooked and really don’t want to have to wait for the next book!
I really loved reading Promises Forged, it managed to keep me. reading and wanting to continue even though I’m currently in somewhat of a reading slump so that’s quite impressive! I can only recommend you pick this series up
