This weeks topic was On the Top of my TBR and I had some real trouble narrowing it down to just 5. I’m a list junkie so I already have about 9 different lists about this exact topic and all are longer than 5!
So here you’ll get a glimpse into what my reading will hopefully look like in the next few weeks.
It’s exam season, so I don’t have any time to read. Naturally, this is when I’m most motivated to pick up a book and if it’s any good I can’t stop reading …. #ProcrastinationQueen
Also … I post this late … again! Sorry, but at this point this is just #mybrand
So these are the 5 books I’ll most likely avoid studying. All of these are already on my shelves since I wanted to focus on reducing my physical TBR this year.
“For a thousand years, the people of Alera have united against the aggressive and threatening races that inhabit the world, using their unique bond with the furies – elementals of earth, air, fire, water, and metal.
But now, Gaius Sextus, First Lord of Alera, grows old and lacks an heir. Ambitious High Lords plot and maneuver to place their Houses in positions of power, and a war of succession looms on the horizon.”
I got this for Christmas from my brother which is the reason I wanna read it fairly soon. He get’s grumpy if I don’t pick them up quickly 😀 (Even though he takes months to do it … but ya know. Hypocrisy and all that 😛 )
The synopsis reminded me a little bit of The Queen of Blood by Sarah Beth Durst; you know with people having an alliance with elemental spirits and all that. Which makes me wanna pick this up even sooner.
I love everything that has to do with controlling the elements. Add in political intrigue and a looming war … I’m in!
* P.S. I chose the cover of the German edition because a) that’s the one I own and b) because it’s way more beautiful and intriguing than the english ones!! (Which doesn’t happen that often tbh)
“Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they’ll first need to stay alive.”
I’ve recently noticed something weird. When I think of my favourite authors V.E. Schwab is always on that list. Yet I’ve only read Vicious when I started listing her. Now I’ve read Vengeful and City of Ghosts, too but I still have so many of her books to read!
I even own this exclusive edition of ADSOM. All I know about this is that is has kickass Lila Bard (a pirate?), Kell who I think can travel between the different Londons … and well … 4 different Londons. Which sounds already amazing!
I’ve heard so many great things about this series that I can’t wait to finally know what everyone has been raving about!
“In a land where three suns almost never set, a fledgling killer joins a school of assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers who destroyed her family.”
Nevernight is this strange book that I’m positive I’ll absolutely adore. It has everything I love in a book and I’ve already read the first page and was hooked.
And that is precisely the reason why I haven’t read this yet. Which is counterintuitive I know. My brain is weird like that. But … I already know I’ll love it so I can spend my time reading other books? Does that make sense? No? Okay.
Maybe this makes more sense. I want to read it at the perfect time (which is obviously never) but since the third (and last?) book comes out this year I think it’s finally time to find out if I’m correct and I really do love it.
But honestly, a book about a girl doing everything to get revenge. A sarcastic talking cat and just in general #stabstabstab … what can go wrong?
“Revenge is worth its weight in gold. […] Some men will stop at nothing to get their hands on gold, and Kate’s quest for revenge may prove fatal.”
Talking about a girl on the road to get her Vengeance … I present to you another one seeking the same. What can I say? I’m a sucker for vengeance stories!
I got this from my Mom for Christmas I believe in 2017? So it’s definitely time to finally read this beauty.
I love Western films, I grew up watching them with my Dad. But I’ve never read a book like that. So I’m really excited to see if I like it just as much.
Also, the cover is absolutely to die for! Love the colour scheme, the art style .. everything!
“Let me be clear: I never intended to raise my brother from his grave, though he may claim otherwise. If there’s anything I’ve learned from him in the years since, it’s that the dead hide truths as well as the living.”
That quote sounds so good? Like, yes, I’m intrigued.
Also, again, the cover love! And the title! The cliff with the cloudy sky, the colours, the little skull! Just everything.
A book about necromancy and the consequences of raising the dead is right up my alley. It promises to be a dark fantasy and those are my favourite kinds if you haven’t noticed yet.
A random side note: If I would have any magical abilities it would probably be either something like this or something with water, ice and shadows! Something cold and dark, just like my heart!
This is another book I got as a gift and since one of my 2019 reading goals is to read all the books I got as gifts this is a good place to start working on that.
