May TBR – or what happens when you request too many books on Netgalley

Now, I had the plan to reduce my physical tbr to 69 this year … yeah, not gonna be able to work towards that goal this month. I went on a requesting spree on NetGalley last month, because I honestly thought I would maybe get approved for one or two … turned out it were a few more than that. Which is great!! And I’m not stressed at all! Since only two of them are published in May and two were published in April. Send help! Please.

But, now I have to put my big girl pants on and read. A lot. And honestly, there are worse problems to have.

So, normally I have other categories and I try to read a book for each category (last book in a series or book I got as a gift etc) but this month I changed that system a bit to better accommodate my needs.

Netgalley ARCs

1. Crimson Ash – by Haley Sulich

Crimson Ash is a book about two sisters having to find out if their relationship is worth fighting for. Ember was taken as a child and transformed into an emotionless soldier with no memories of who she was before. And Solanine lost everyone she loved to the soldiers, including her fiancé, at the hand of Ember.

It sounds quite intriguing, but has only an average rating of 3.12 on Goodreads … so I’m curious to see what I’ll think of it.
So far I’m one quarter into it and I like it.

2. Over Raging Tides – by Jennifer Ellision

First rule on board of the Lady Luck: No men allowed.
But rules are there to be broken if it furthers your goals. At least that’s what Grace Porter thinks when she rescues a young nobleman in exchange for information of an omniscient map. A map that may help her get her revenge. But for what price?

Ahm, Lady Pirates! What else is there to say?

3. Scarborough Fair – by Margarita Morris

This is a blend of a historical and contemporary thriller. It follows Alice in the year 1899 trying to escape her fiancé, But something goes terribly wrong.
In 2016 Rose meets Dan and they are soon both mixed up with his father’s criminal gang and find themselves in a life and death situation.

This sounds quite intriguing and has already good ratings on Goodreads. Hope I’ll like it just as much.

4. The Oddling Prince – by Nancy Springer

“In her long-awaited new fantasy novel, Nancy Springer explores the darkness of the human heart as well as its unceasing capacity for love. ”
Well, I’m sold. I love tales about the darkness of the heart with a dash of hope in them.
This is the story of two brothers who are the only hope for the kingdom and who face the struggles ahead together.

5. Izara – by Julia Dippel

This is a German new release and a friend of mine read and loved it. So I’m down for it. And it sounds like it includes the hate to love trope which I admit I love.

Other Review Copies

1. Das Geheimnis der Goldmine (A Pocketful of Rhye) (Audiobook) – by Agatha Christie

This is the first physical review copy I ever got! I am soo happy you can’t even imagine. And bonus points for being an Agatha Christie Audiobook. I love her books and listened to them as a kid over and over.
I already finished this and have a review up if you want to see what I thought. Since it’s a German audiobook the review is in both English and German.

2. Schlafe für immer (The Sleeping Beauty Killer) (Audiobook) – by Mary Higgins Clark

My Mother loves to read crime or thriller books and she recommended Mary Higgins Clark. so, I requested this and it is still on it’s way to me but should be here in the next few days.

It is about a woman who was convicted of murdering her fiancé. Years later she is free again and tries to prove her innocence.

3. Am Anfang, die Schuld (The Damage Done) by James Oswald

This is a thriller and all I know is that the Inspector is reminded of an old case where he rescued a kidnapped girl. They never found out who she was.
I don’t want to know more since I prefer to go into thriller with knowing as little as possible.

Books from my Physical TBR

1. A Wise Mans Fear – by Patrick Rothfuss

I started this a few months ago, but I never find the time to continue as I want to read larger chunks at a time. But I really hope I’ll be able to, if not finish it, at least get a good part of it done. I really like it so far.

2. The Kiss of Deception – by Mary E Pearson

A Princess fleeing from an arranged marriage, An assassin and the prince after her. Not knowing who is who. Sounds great! I bought this book maybe two years ago and wanted to read it for even longer, but somehow never got around to it. My incentive now is, that the May Fairyloot Box has an item inspired by the Remnant Chronicles and I want to be able to recognize it.

3. The Winners Curse – by Marie Rutkoski

These Covers are stunning and I’ve heard so many good things about this trilogy. I finally own the books and can’t wait to dive into the world of royalty, political intrigue and love.

4. Queens of Fennbirn – by Kendare Blake

This includes the two short stories ‘The Young Queens’ and ‘The Oracle Queen’ and since I loved loved loved Three Dark Crowns and One Dark Throne and the third book doesn’t come out till October (or something) I’m bridging the wait with this book. Love Katharine and am curious to see what their life was like before their 16th birthday.

5. A Game of Thrones Vol 3 – by George R R Martin

I started this multiple times already, but I can’t seem to finish it. I already know what happens since I read the first book and watched the series and I don’t want it to happen … But I’ll finish it this month! That’s a priority!
